History
The Bell Gardens Library first opened in August, 1938 at 5656 Live Oak St.
As the City of Bell Gardens grew and expanded, so did the library. On
September 22, 1958 the library moved to 7515 Eastern Ave. (a store front
location). The library moved to its current location, 7110 S. Garfield
Avenue, on May 7th, 1970. On July 21, 2007 the library had a Grand Re-Opening ceremony to celebrate a 6-month major refurbishment project.
Collection
The library's collection consists of 50,569 books, 378 CDs, 3,739 videos, 587 DVDs and 59 magazine and 2 newspaper titles, as well as
local history information. The library's holdings include Spanish language materials for adults and children.
Services
Services available to customers include two online library catalogs that provide access to the County Library collection and to online reference databases, a coin-operated copier and ten public access Internet workstations are also available free of charge to customers with a County of Los Angeles Public Library card. There is also a Children's storytime and crafts program every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Facilities
The library is a single story building, located in the Bell Gardens civic center. The library is 5,190 square feet. There is an ADA bathroom, handicap parking, and doors that automatically open for customers who need entry/exit assistance.
