Public Information and Records Policy

The mission of the County of Los Angeles Public Library includes meeting the information needs of a diverse public. In conformance with this mission and with the intent of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the California Public Records Act, the County Library provides public access to information on Library operations and services; to official reports, documents and communications with the Board of Supervisors; and to documents relating to the proceedings of the Los Angeles County Library Commission.

INFORMATION ON LIBRARY OPERATIONS AND SERVICES

Library locations, activities, resources, and services are detailed on the Library's Web site, www.colapublib.org. Information on Library locations, activities, resources, and services can be obtained at any of the County community libraries or by contacting the Library's Public Information Office at (562) 940-8415/tel, (562) 803-3032/fax, or pbroussard@library.lacounty.gov.

OFFICIAL REPORTS, DOCUMENTS AND COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

All official reports and documents which are not exempt from disclosure under the Public Records Act will be made available to the public and/or media for inspection and copying upon a written request that reasonably describes an identifiable record or records. Requests for documents will receive a response within ten (10) calendar days.

Current reports, letters and memoranda to the Board of Supervisors are posted in the L.A. County Online website. Copies of these documents are available in the Public Information Office at Library Headquarters, 7400 E. Imperial Highway, Downey.

Information and documents exempt from disclosure under the Public Records Act include but are not limited to:

personnel files;
preliminary drafts, notes and memoranda which are not ordinarily retained by the Department;
Library registration and circulation records.

Agendas for meetings of the Library Commission and for Commission Subcommittees are posted in the lobby at Library Headquarters, 7400 E. Imperial Highway, Downey, and in Executive Office at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple St., Los Angeles.
