The County of Los Angeles Public Library is a special fund department under the jurisdiction of the County Board of Supervisors. A 20-member Library Commission acts as an advisory board to the Library. The Library is financed primarily by a dedicated share of property tax from the service area, with other revenues including a general fund contribution, a parcel tax, grants, and fees. Budgeted expenditures are $28.36 per capita for fiscal year 2006/07. Supplemental funds are raised by the Los Angeles County Public Library Foundation. The County Public Library serves 51 of the 88 cities and most unincorporated areas in the County of Los Angeles. The Library belongs to the South State Cooperative Library System, and is an affiliate member of the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System (MCLS).
